To follow the process of transferring the electric energy in any part of the electrical or electronic circuit between the generator and the distribution primary circuit power transformer brings into existence. In the distribution system to interface step up and step down voltages, such transformers are used. The life span of the most accepted type of the power transformer i.e liquid immersed is around 30 years.

The average life of any normal transformer is about 30 years.

Analysis of power transformer according to the ranges :

  • small power transformers ranges from 500-7500kVA
  • medium power transformers ranges from -100MVA
  • large power transformers ranges from 100MVA & beyond

Power Transformers are based on the principle of Faraday's induction. They termed the power system into zones where whole gear linked to the system is sized per the ratings set by the power transformer.

The power transformer is designed with laminated metal. It is settled into either a core type or shell type. The layout of the transformer are into parts and are connected using conductors to manufacture three 1-phase or one 3-phase transformer.

Three 1-phase transformer needs each bank detached from the additional and so offer persistence of service when one bank flops where as a single 3-phase transformer will not function even with one bank out of service, whether the shell or core type.It is modest to develop and it has a smaller footprint, and functions with higher efficiency as compared to 1-phase transformer

Functioning :
